Equifax takes Control

Equifax is part of the multinational Equifax Inc. It offers a wide range of services including consumer and commercial information, credit-scoring expertise for assessing credit and business risk marketing services, geo-demographic analysis to support marketing campaigns and new site planning, vehicle information from the HPI database to uncover the hidden history of motor vehicles and Transax cheque guarantee services.

The Clydebank operation in Glasgow is the major centre for providing personal credit information. This requires its 180 operators to manage and manipulate a database of over 55 million names and addresses taken directly from the electoral register and deal with customer enquires concerning credit references.

Fast and accurate keyboard skills are paramount in such a high pressure and data sensitive environment. Equifax places a very high emphasis on the quality of its operators and the training they receive.

ISV Software was brought in to assess operator skills and recommend a training programme for the recruiting of future staff. "We have a large number of operators inputting different types of data," says Fiona Alexander, Training Manager "but we lacked a set standard for alphanumeric, data entry and call centre skills.
